Realplayer is a really nasty piece of work. It might as well be a virus. There's a program called Real Alternative which will play real player files. I suggest you use that.

Anyway, if you want to alter the file associations, you can do this from Windows XP Explorer shell by clicking on Start and choosing %26quot;Set Program Access And Defaults%26quot; on the right hand side. If you're using Vista, i don't know the answer, and if you're using something else, right-click on the icon of a file you want to play and choose properties. It should say something like %26quot;Opens with...%26quot; and the name of the program, with a button next to it reading %26quot;Change...%26quot; . You will be shown a list of programs you can use instead. If the program you want is there, choose it and click on OK. If not, click on %26quot;Browse%26quot;, navigate to %26quot;C:\Program Files%26quot; and find the folder for the program you want to use there.
I normally use Real Alternative and VLC for media files. MP3s and ogg vorbis will play on both of these, and FLAC will play on GOM i think (i don't use FLAC very often). Winamp also plays MP3 and ogg vorbis. The Monkey's Audio player will play their own, .APE format. WAV and .AU will play on almost any media player.
