Open 'My Computer'.
Go to 'Tools - Folder Options'
Click on 'File Types'
Go through the list, changing the default program for any extentions you want changing - e.g. MPG, WMV, AVI etc etcHow do u change ur default media player if its windows media player and u want to changeit to vlc mediaplayer
You can try going to:
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Set Programs Access and Defaults
Custom (click the down arrow)
Change the various defaults
Click OK

there ae two ways:
one from the program itself and other from the explorer:
1. try finding an option for associating file types in the programs itself.
2. right click on any file associated with WMP and choose properties. Over there, click change (besides the name of the associated program) and choose the new program for that file type. Unfortunately, u hav to repeat this step for every file type.
